What to expect
when you apply to Nexar

Our recruitment process is not only a chance for us to learn more about who you are, your capabilities, experience and career direction. It is also an opportunity for you to meet people who may become your teammates, understand how Nexar works and decide whether this is the right place for your next step.

Depending on the role, some steps may be adjusted. HR will share all the details so you have time to prepare.

1. Submit Your Application

Choose the right role and submit your application through Nexar’s careers page or email.
Make sure your CV, Portfolio and related materials clearly show your capabilities, experience and the work you personally completed.
After receiving your application, HR and the specialist team will review how well you match the role.

2. Technical Test (Depending on the Role)

Some roles include a test after the application review and before the first interview.
The test helps us better understand how you apply your knowledge and thinking to solve tasks similar to the actual work. All requirements, deadlines and instructions will be sent by email.

3. Technical Interview

This is where we discuss your professional expertise, work experience and approach to problem-solving in more detail.
You may be asked about projects you have worked on, your direct role, the professional decisions you made and what you learned along the way.
Interviewer: Your direct Leader.

4. Career Values & Aspirations Focused Round:

At this stage, we will discuss your career direction, development goals and what you expect from your next work environment.
Nexar also wants to understand how you work with others and how well you align with the company’s core values.
Interviewer: CEO.

This is not a test with right or wrong answers. Be honest about what matters to you, where you want to go and how Nexar can support you on that journey.

5. Offer Discussion

When both sides feel it is a good match, HR will contact you by phone or Zalo to discuss:

  • Compensation package and salary.
  • Expected start date.
  • Information needed before joining.

Once both sides agree, Nexar Games will send you an official offer letter.

And that is where your journey at Nexar Games begins.

Careers FAQs

I don’t meet 100% of the requirements in the job description. Should I still apply?

Yes. Give it a try!
The job description helps you understand what Nexar is looking for, but we don’t assess candidates by a checklist alone. If you have the right foundation, the ability to learn, and a real interest in growing into the role, send us your application.

Can I apply for more than one position at the same time?

Yes. But choose the roles that genuinely fit you.

Before applying, think about your capabilities, interests, and career direction. Choosing carefully helps us better understand where you want to go in your career.

How do I know the application deadline?

Nexar usually doesn’t set a fixed closing date. A role stays open until we find the right candidate. For some roles, we may also keep the position open because top talent in this field is genuinely scarce.

So, if you can still see the role on our website, you can still apply.

We review applications on an ongoing basis, so applying early is still a good idea. If a role has a specific deadline, it will be clearly stated in the job description.

I’ve submitted my application but haven’t heard back. What should I do?

We know waiting for a recruitment update isn’t easy.

Nexar usually responds within 1–3 working days, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes, though, we need a little more time for HR and the relevant team to review your application carefully.

We always try to keep the process both quick and thoughtful. If it takes longer than expected, we appreciate your patience.

What does Nexar Games look for in candidates?

We look at your current capabilities, how you think, your growth potential, your passion, and how you work with others.

That’s also why, alongside “Requirements”, Nexar job descriptions include a “Capability Development Direction” section. It helps you understand not only what the role needs today, but also the knowledge, skills, and mindset you can continue developing in the future.

You don’t need to prove that you already know everything. Help us understand where you are now, what you do well, and how far you want to grow.

Does Nexar care a lot about years of experience?

We don’t look at years of experience alone.

Experience still matters for roles that require a certain level of expertise.

But we care more about what you can actually do, how you think, and your ability to contribute to the team’s shared results.

If I’m not selected this time, can I apply again?

Of course.

Not being the right fit once doesn’t mean you won’t be the right fit in the future.

After some time, you may have gained more experience or skills, or simply found a role that suits you better. When that happens, we’ll be happy to hear from you again.

What matters isn’t how many times you’ve applied. What matters is whether you and the role are a good match at that point in time.

Can I get feedback if I’m not selected?

We understand that feedback can help you see what to improve, and we try to provide it when possible.

However, the amount of feedback we can provide depends on how far you’ve progressed in the recruitment process.

For some technical test assignments, we may also be unable to share the answers, as doing so could affect our ability to use the same test with future candidates.

How long does the recruitment process usually take?

There isn’t one fixed timeline for every role.

The timing can vary depending on the position, the team’s needs, and the schedules of the people involved in the recruitment process.

We’ll keep you updated so you know where you are in the process.

Does Nexar offer online interviews?

Yes, when it makes sense.

We usually prefer in-person interviews at our office. It gives both sides a good chance to talk, and it also lets you visit Nexar and get a feel for the environment before deciding whether you’d like to work with us.

However, if you live in another city or coming to the office isn’t convenient for another reason, let HR know. We can consider arranging an online interview.

What should I prepare for the interview?

Don’t worry — we’ll tell you what you need to prepare.

When you’re invited to an interview, Nexar’s email will include the time, location, and Candidate Guide so you know what to expect before the meeting.

And remember: the interview isn’t only for Nexar to get to know you. It’s also your chance to get to know Nexar, so feel free to prepare the questions you genuinely want answered.

I’ve just graduated and don’t have any experience. Should I apply?

Yes — as long as the role matches your current level.

Each job description clearly states the foundation and requirements needed. For Internship and Fresher roles, we understand that you may not have much hands-on experience yet.

For these roles, your foundation, ability to learn, way of thinking, and growth potential are also very important to us.

What if I want to change my information after submitting my application?

Please check your CV, Portfolio, and personal information carefully before you hit submit.

At the moment, submitted applications can’t be edited directly, so you’ll need to submit a new one. Taking a little extra time to check everything first can help both you and us avoid unnecessary mistakes.

I don’t live near the Nexar office. Can I work remotely?

Most roles at Nexar are intended to be on-site at the office.

We believe working together in person helps teams connect, communicate, and collaborate more effectively.

However, some roles may have different arrangements depending on the nature of the work. If remote work is something you need to consider, talk openly with HR during the recruitment process so we can see whether the role is a good fit.

I want to work at Nexar Vietnam, but I’m not a Vietnamese citizen. Can I apply?

Yes.

Working in Vietnam is subject to immigration requirements, work permits, and other relevant regulations.

You can still apply as usual. If we both feel there’s a good fit, our recruitment team will discuss these matters with you in the next stages of the process.

I have a question about an open role. Who should I contact?

We try to include the most important information in the job description and on our website, but there may still be things you’d like to ask.

You can send your CV, Portfolio, or recruitment-related questions to: info@nexargames.com, or contact us through other channels such as Zalo or Facebook.

Portfolio & Reel Suggestions FAQs

General Portfolio Advice

Your portfolio is your chance to show us what you can do, how you think, and how you turn ideas into real work.

There’s no perfect formula for a great portfolio. But here are a few things that can help us get to know you and your work better.

01. Show your best work

Focus on the work you're most proud of — and the pieces most relevant to the role.

More isn’t always better. A smaller, focused portfolio can tell us much more than a long one filled with work that doesn’t really represent you.

02. Show us how you think

When it makes sense, show us a little of what happened before the final result.

Sketches, references, iterations, breakdowns or parts of your process can all be useful.

We don’t just want to see where you ended up. We’re also curious about how you got there — how you developed an idea, made decisions and solved problems along the way.

03. Tell us what you did

Made something as part of a team? Great. Just help us understand what was yours.

Tell us about your role, responsibilities and what you personally worked on. A few lines about the goal, your tasks and the tools you used are usually enough. No need to write an essay.

04. Make it easy to review

Help us find the good stuff.

Put your strongest work first, keep things well organised, and make sure your links, videos and files actually work.

A great portfolio isn’t only about great work. It also makes that work easy to find and understand.

05. Keep confidential work confidential

Only share work that you have the right to show publicly.

If a project is under NDA or hasn’t been released yet, tell us about your experience and contribution within what you’re allowed to share.

We’d much rather hear a short explanation than see something that was never meant to leave the project.

2D Artist
  • Focus on work that shows strong art fundamentals.
  • Include moodboards and sketches when possible, so we can see how you approach and develop your ideas.
  • Show that you can work with different art styles and themes. Being able to analyse references and adapt to each project’s art direction is important at Nexar.
  • We’d also like to see a range of game assets, such as characters, backgrounds, props, items, icons, UI elements and store listing assets, etc.
  • For system-based projects, briefly show the brief, the problem, your design choices, iterations and the final result.
3D Animator
  • Have a Portfolio / Demo Reel that shows your animation capabilities (3D, 2D, FBF, etc.).
  • Prioritise gameplay-focused work such as Combat, Action, Locomotion, Creature and Boss animation, etc.
  • Show that you can work with different character types, including Humanoids, Quadrupeds and Creatures, etc.
  • We’d also like to see your understanding of Gameplay Feel, including Readability, Timing, Weight, Responsiveness and Character Personality.
  • Experience implementing animation in Unity or an actual game project is a plus.
  • If you use AI, Motion Capture, Cascadeur or similar tools, clearly show how they were used in your portfolio.
Creative Designer
  • Focus on showcasing work across different game genres (if available).
  • We’d like to see work that combines different video production skills such as motion graphics, visual effects, typography, character animation, pacing, storytelling, sound design, etc. If the work was created as part of a team, clearly state what you were directly responsible for.
  • When possible, include the script together with the video. If you were directly involved in developing the script, briefly explain your creative process: What was the key hook? Why did you choose that direction? What was the main message of the creative? This helps us better understand your creative thinking.
  • If you have any A/B testing cases, we’d love to see them. Don’t be afraid to share different versions of the same idea. This helps us better understand how you optimize your work.
  • If you have experience using other supporting tools (AI, 3D software, etc.), show how you use them and your level of proficiency with these tools in your portfolio.
Game Designer
  • Include 1–2 case studies from personal projects, test assignments (if any), or shipped projects.
  • Clearly explain specific design decisions and the reasons behind them, rather than only describing features.
  • Include measurable results when available (CPI, Retention, Playtime, rating, etc.).
  • We also encourage case studies about failures or trade-offs you had to handle.
  • Clearly list the games you’ve played extensively, along with their genre and playtime.
Game Developer
  • If possible, please include the products you have contributed to, such as the game’s App Store / Google Play link or a gameplay video (if available).
  • If the game is no longer available on the store, please provide the App ID/ Package Name so we can look it up.
Graphic Designer
  • Prioritise work that shows strong Graphic Design fundamentals, such as layout, typography, colour, visual hierarchy, and the ability to build a consistent visual system.
  • Your portfolio should include case studies in Social Media, Event, Logo, Landing Page, Website/UI, Packaging or Gift Design to show your ability to work across different brand touchpoints — which are also key areas of work for Graphic Designers at Nexar Games.
  • We encourage portfolios that show your ability to build and maintain a Brand Identity, from creating key visuals to applying the system consistently across Facebook, LinkedIn, Behance, websites and physical materials.
  • If you have experience with UI/Figma, AI, or new tools in your design workflow, show how you use them and explain how they helped improve the quality or efficiency of your work.
VFX Artist
  • For the Showreel, the ideal length is 1–2 minutes.
  • Prioritise work that shows strong VFX fundamentals, such as shape, value, colour, lighting and timing.
  • For game VFX, pay attention to the gameplay information the effect needs to communicate. A good effect should not only look good, but also help players quickly recognise actions, skills, impacts and levels of danger.
  • Your portfolio should show your ability to create VFX for different needs, such as characters, environments and UI/UX. We also encourage work that includes hand-drawn effects/textures, animation, 3D, shaders and direct implementation in Unity.
  • If possible, show that you understand performance optimization for game VFX. For example: controlling particle counts, reducing overdraw and using texture atlases properly.
  • Nexar works with different Art Styles and Art Themes, so the ability to adapt to different styles while keeping the work visually consistent is a plus.
  • Game-focused VFX work is always highly valued, whether it comes from personal projects or professional work. Experience in film is still a plus, but including game VFX in your portfolio will show your direction and commitment to becoming a VFX Artist more clearly.
